Nine people are currently battling for their lives after allegedly eating a poisoned food served at a funeral last Saturday at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

An 18-months old has already lost her life as a result of the situation.

Confirming the incident to Soireenews' Kofi Wusu Brempong, the Obuasi District Police Commander, DSP Martin Asenso explained that "we got a call early Thursday morning from one Kwadwo Sam that his family attended a funeral last Saturday at the St Thomas R/C school Park and after eating the food served, all are currently battling for their lives with severe stomach aches."

He further explained that an 18-month old has died as a result and Kwadwo Sam narrated that the toddler suffered severe stomach aches after taken the food and later lost his life.

He detailed that the caterer who cooked the food has been arrested assisting investigations. He told that all 9 are currently receiving treatment and will be arrested and cautioned after they're well.

"The caterer has been arrested and is assisting the police in investigations, all the nine will also be arrested and cautioned after they're discharged from the hospital for breaching the president's COVID-19 protocols on public gathering. The Abusuapanin upon hearing we are on his tail has absconded and we're looking for him" he hinted.

DSP Asenso further warned inhabitants of Obuasi against organizing funerals as the president's ban is in full force and further said, the Roman Catholic Bishop who gave the school park for the funeral to be held will be arrested and made to answer questions for abetting a crime.
