The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has opened an inquiry into the bribery of Ghanaian officials in the Military aircraft deal.

An Aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, has confessed to paying bribes in Ghana and other countries between 2011 and 2015 in a corruption investigation of its business deals dating back more than a decade.

A statement signed and released on Sunday, February 2, 2020 by the Director of Communications of the Presidency, Eugene Arhin reveals that the President has been drawn to the judgment of the Crown Court at the Southwark in the United Kingdom and has taken notice of the judgment and its implication.

The release further disclose that the case has been referred to the “Office of the Special Prosecutor to collaborate with its UK counterparts to conduct a prompt inquiry to determine the complicity or other wise of any of an Ghanaian government official, past or present, involved in the scandal, and to take the necessary legal action against any such official, as required by the Ghanaian law.”

Documents obtained indicates that Europe’s largest plane maker has been fined 3 billion pounds for greasing the palms of public officials and fixers over a string of hidden payments as part of a pattern of worldwide corruption to facilitate the sales of its wares.
