Neymar has filed a lawsuit against Barcelona demanding an amount of €44m euros from the Catalan club.

The forward’s renewal of the contract for the Blaugranas until 2021, blocked by Barcelona when the player left for PSG in the summer of 2017 is the source of the misunderstanding in the payment of a €26m, agreed by club and player.

Marca reports that Neymar still believes his former club owes him money on renewal bonuses following his move to the Ligue 1 in 2017 after the forward’s representatives appealed against a court ordering him to pay €6.7m to his former club.

The Brazilian is optimistic that Barca breached the contract between them and only paid him until he left following PSG’s payment of his release clause.

El Mundo on Wednesday disclosed that a tax inspection covering the 2015 financial period meant the Blaugranas overpaid Neymar during his time at the Camp Nou and there was the need for him to refund the club.

The matter is for the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia to decide.
