Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos on a long-term contract.

The Greek player will be a cover-up for left-back, Andy Robertson.

The Reds had their £10m for Jamal Lewis rejected by Norwich last week but the scouting team after years of monitoring recommended Tsimikas as the best option.

"The 24-year-old Greece international, capped three times by his country, joins the Premier League champions after penning a deal at Melwood today,"  the club confirmed.

"He will now link up with his new teammates as Jürgen Klopp’s squad prepare for the upcoming campaign and defense of their Premier League title," it added.

The first Reds signing spoke words of delight for joining the Premier League champions.

“I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here. For me, [it’s] the biggest club in the world. It’s an honor to be here and I will give my best,” Tsimikas told Liverpoolfc.com in an exclusive interview after completing his transfer.

“The league here, I like a lot. I watch it on the TV and it was always one dream I had from when I was a kid to come to play in this league and to come through.

“With a lot of work and focus on what I do and what the coach wants, and every day working hard in training, I can be on the highest level.

“[I want] to achieve [our] goals. To win the league again and also to win the Champions League.”
