Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has been named as the 2019 BT England Men’s Player of the Year.

The Liverpool captain saw off competition from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane to claim the accolade after helping the Three Lions secure qualification for UEFA Euro 2020 and a third-place finish at the UEFA Nations League. He represented England on seven occasions last year, making a total of 50 caps during England’s victory in Montenegro in March 2019.

The 29-year-old under the management of Jurgen Klopp has also helped Liverpool to lift three trophies during 2019, the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

“Very honoured and humbled to be named BT England player of the year. Even more so considering just how strong this England set up is. Thank you to everyone who voted and congratulations to fellow winner Lucy Bronze,” he wrote on Twitter.

Liverpool have extended their lead on top of the table to 16 points plus a game in hand and are likely to secure their first Premier League trophy in the era of Captain Jordan Henderson.
