In order to instill self-employable skills to make a strong statement of bright future, a non- profit organization,Youth Opportunity and Transformation in Africa (YOTA), has graduated 200 young women a stint of training.

The graduation ceremony which came off on the 27th January, 2023 in Accra saw the trainees who had gone through various options of field ranging from carpentary, painting, tiling laying,masonry, plumbing,electrical amongst others testify of how inventive the programme is for creating a great future. The programme, being a collaboration between YOTA and Plan International(PI) partners with the National Vocational Training Institute(NVTI) to offer practical tuition to women enrolled.

Targeting to train some 1,200 young people who otherwise would have diverted attention to social vices with the excuse of "no job or training". Speaking to the media at the sidelines of the ceremony, the Project Coordinator, Mr Eric Saforo said the project forms part of his outfit's commitment to give a livelihood to the young men and women across the country.

Dubbed, “Pathways for Sustainable Employment Opportunities for Women and Youth in Ghana (PASEWAY)”, the project receives funding from the German government. Mr. Saforo said the project presents four categories of preference to participants to be trained.

He disclosed that the first, 200 unskilled young ladies in technical training, Second, a semi-skilled training for 250 young people to have some level of technical skills, to be supported to top up their skills and receive certification. The remaining two, Mr. Saforo noted are those who already possess the skill, numbering 500 unfortunately, had no jobs.

He gave the assurance that under the initiative would be offered or be linked to a source of employment after internships while the remaining 250, categorised as micro-enterprises, would rec business support in a bid to formalise their businesses. “So, the first 200 will be ladies with no practical or technical training, while the remaining 1000 in the other three categories will be both male and female,” he said.

The ultimate goal of the project, Mr. Saforo said is to add to the existing very few formal youth employment with decent work by 2023. “This is intended to be achieved through the supply and demand job market in the hospitality and construction sectors. The project seeks to benefit four categories of youth between the ages of 15 and 35,” he added.

Mr. Eric Saforo said there is now good news for anyone in the NVTI space as they could progress even the Masters level therefore urging participants to guard against what they have received.

The graduation saw the lunch of an association called ensure guidance and linkage to opportunities, an association named, "PASEWAY"
