World water day: Residents plea for potable water.

Inhabitants of Kriki, a suburb of Obuasi east district have pleaded to the authorities to assist them with potable water for consumption.

Residents say the previous stream they use to fetch from has been contaminated with wastewater which makes it unsafe for use.

Although a mechanized borehole has been constructed for them by Anglogold Ashanti in the community, it is unsafe for consumption.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Abena Dufie Wiredu Bremang, Principal Officer of the water resources commission who is also the head of Pra Basin has urged mining companies to assist such communities to be able to have access to potable water.

She is optimistic that testing and treating groundwater before use is the safest way of living a healthier life.

She made these known at the commemoration of world water day in Obuasi.

On his part, Nana Kwaku Kwakye, the Adontenhene for Adansehene says chiefs in Adansi will make sure galamsey activities will be brought to a halt in Adansi to safeguard river bodies.

He concluded by saying some communities are named with rivers hence Nananom will henceforth work tirelessly with the general public to make sure illegalities are curbed within the enclave.
