Why are women cutting their hair in protest?

Women all across the world, including some well-known ones like actress Juliette Binoche, have been cutting their hair to support the demonstrators.

Following the passing of Mahsa Amini, the act is being interpreted as a protest and a rebellion against the Iranian dictatorship as well as a show of support for Iranian women and girls.

Women have also been burning headscarves while yelling "Women, life, freedom" and "No to the headscarf, no to the turban, yes to freedom and equality" in Iran and throughout the world.
