Two Fox News journalists were killed and a correspondent was critically injured in an attack on a crew reporting near the Ukrainian city of Kyiv on Monday, the channel confirmed on Tuesday.

Pierre Zakrzewski, a 55-year-old veteran war photographer, and Oleksandra "Sasha" Kuvshynova, a 24-year-old Ukrainian journalist working as a consultant for the network, were killed in the strike. Benjamin Hall, a Fox News correspondent, was critically hurt and is still in the hospital.
"The truth is the goal," Ukraine's Ministry of Defense said Tuesday in response to the attack on the Fox News crew of journalists.

Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News Media, confirmed both deaths, saying the team's van was shot at while they were reporting. Russian artillery shelling, according to Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian interior minister's aide.
The fatalities occurred at a time when journalists working in Ukraine are increasingly coming under danger. Brent Renaud, an award-winning American documentary filmmaker, was slain in an attack on Sunday in which journalist Juan Arredondo was also injured. Earlier last month, a Sky News team aired footage of them being savagely accosted.
Zakrzewski was honored by Scott on Tuesday as a journalist who was "very committed to telling the story, and his fearlessness, professionalism, and work ethic were famous among journalists at every media outlet," according to Scott.

Scott described Zakrzewski's talents as vast and said that "there wasn't a role that he didn't jump in to help with in the field - from photographer to engineer to the editor to the producer. She said that he "did it all under immense pressure with tremendous skill."

Tributes poured in throughout the day for Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova.

Yingst wrote on Kuvshynova, saying, "She was gifted, resourceful, and humorous. Photography, poetry, and music were among her favorite pastimes. We became quick friends since we both enjoy coffee."
Zakrzewski's coworkers at other networks recalled him as well.
CNN's chief international correspondent, Clarissa Ward, said she had "the enormous fortune" of working with Zakrzewski and "the even greater privilege" of naming him a friend.

Ward stated on Twitter, "An extraordinary soul and tremendous talent, and one of the sweetest, most courteous colleagues on the road." "It's distressing, to say the least."

In December, Fox News named Zakrzewski as one of the network's "unsung heroes." He was dubbed a journalist who "risks his life in combat zones to get the scoop for Fox News" at the time.

The two journalists were praised by Fox News presenter Bret Baier as "great guys" who "were lost on that battlefield."
He tweeted, "This is a difficult day."
Bill Hemmer, the Fox News presenter who broke the news of Zakrzewski's death on the air, called the photojournalist "an incredible legend" at the network.

Trey Yingst, a foreign correspondent reporting from Ukraine, remembers both Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova on Twitter.

He wrote about Zakrzewski, "I don't know what to say." "Pierre was the best of the best. Selfless. Brave. Passionate. I'm truly sorry for what has happened to you."
