Top union in Tunisia declares yet another national strike

The most prominent union in Tunisia has requested a second nationwide strike in opposition to the country's economic policies.

The UGTT, which has around a million members, shut down the nation of north Africa earlier this month during its most recent statewide strike.

To prevent the collapse of the state finances, the Tunisian government is ready to discuss a loan with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The organization, which speaks for many employees in the public sector, has said that it will reject IMF demands for a salary freeze and reductions in food and energy subsidies.

The strike has not yet been given a date.
