A safety advocacy group, National Safety Campaign (NASACA) has blamed the Gomoa West District Security Council for the death of children who drowned at Apam Beach on Sunday 7, 2021 in the Central Region.

A total of about 20 children were feared dead in the incident which happened on Sunday night at Apam Beach.

It occurred around 5 pm when the children between the ages of 14 and 17 years reportedly went through an illegal route through a lagoon in order not to be noticed by the leadership of the fishermen at the beach before getting to the other side of the beach to swim.

Reports suggest the children were swimming, a heavy tidal breeze and got them drowned and their bodies were carried away.

For this reason, NASACA has stated that it does not understand why the Central Regional Security Council would allow entry to the Apam beach when President Akufo-Addo has banned beaching as part of measures to curtail pandemic coronavirus.

The group stated that for parents to permit their wards to attend beach in this unpermitted era bring them to questioning therefore should give out answers on why they allowed their wards to breach orders of President Akufo-Addo.

“We lost Castro the Destroyer, and Janet Bandu and a number of Wenchi Methodist SHS in a similar instance so why must this continue to occur?" The leader of the group, Mr. Daniel Asuku, enquired.
