Twifo Atti-morkwa District Fires Back
Thousands of the cocoa farmers in the Twifo Atti-morkwa District of Central Rgion have expressed a displeasure about Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for insufficient supply of cocoa inputs such as agro chemicals, spraying machines, pruning equipment among other things to cocoa farmers in the district.
They also lamented that, aside the insufficiency of the farm inputs, the little that come from COCOBOD are not released on time in the Twifo Atti-morkwa District.
This development has compiled the cocoa farmers to buy the chemicals on the market at exorbitant prices.
"We're fed up with the COCOBOD 's continuing distortion of our farm inputs," the farmers cried out.
Considering the suffering that they endure as cocoa farmers and the poor attention the government offer them, they have threatened to cut all their cocoa farms to grow oil palm because they believe that, it is less expensive and less stressful with oil palm farming than cocoa farming.
In reaction, Mr. Benjamin King Arthur who is the Twifo Atti-morkwa District Director of COCOBOD said that it is exactly the quantity of farm inputs that his office in Twifo Praso receives and is what his office distributes to the cocoa farmers.
He stated that no distortion of farm inputs as the farmers claimed.
