Wenchi: Akrobi crowned winners of Awhenekoko inter community football gala

Akrobi community beat Jimini community both of Wenchi in the Bono Region 4 - 2 on penalties to emerge the winner of Wenchi Ahwenekoko inter football gala competition.

Ten communities, Bandaline, Akrobi, Dagomba line, Jimini line, Zongo, Nwaoase, Jensoso, Wenchifie Asuogya, and Wangara line, participated in the event at the Wenchi Methodist school Park.

The winner take home a trophy, one football, and a cash prize of GH¢ 500 whiles the 1st and 2nd runner-up received one football, a cash prize of GH¢ 200, and one football respectively.

The event was organized by Wenchi sports Council 

The Ahwenekoko inter-football gala aimed to revive talents, football, and sports in the Wenchi municipality Chairman of Wenchi sports Council and also the Aketegyahene of Wenchi Traditional area Okokyeredom Sarkidie Antwi has said.

The Member of Parliament for Wenchi, Hon Alhaji Seidu Haruna took the opportunity to encourage the youth to go all out and do their best in football.

Wenchi is naturally endowed with uncountable football talents he said.

The Lawmaker motivated them to look up to the likes of Asamoah Gyan, and Felix Afena Gyan to mention a few all of who hail from Wenchi.

Football like all other games is not without challenges and one of such challenges confronting football in Wenchi has been a pitch but as a football fanatic, I assured the youth of my unflinching support for the development of sports in Wenchi as I have written to the Honorable Minister of Youth and sports for an astroturf for Wenchi and I have been positively assured of one by the minister so in due time we will get our fair share of the astroturf this the MP informed his constituents.

He presented a beautiful giant trophy, two footballs, and an undisclosed amount of money to support such a wonderful event.

He appealed to the youth to come together in unity so that Wenchi can move from grace to grace because in unity lies strength and great civilization is always destroyed from within.

For the betterment of Wenchi, we need to come together as one people and contribute our quota for our dear town he emphasized.

For his part the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Alexander Obour Damoah said plans are far advanced to get a multipurpose sports center functional.

He said the vision of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly aimed at promoting socialization and unity among various community sects and varied backgrounds.

Leaders of the participated communities expressed gratitude to the organizers for their efforts and the development of football talents in the area.
