Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken on the need for Manchester United to fortify their squad as the Premier League resumes next month.

The Red Devils ended their Europa League campaign in disappointment after a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in Cologne, Germany on Sunday night.

The Europa League was United's one hope of getting their hands on a trophy this season after their dissatisfying exit from the FA Cup semifinals last month by Chelsea.

“We definitely need to improve if we want to move up the table and take further steps in the cups. I’ve never had three semi-finals in one season [as a coach]. We’ve had spells with injuries and players who have played a lot. We’re always looking to improve the squad.

"We need to strengthen the squad depth because it's going to be a long season. We're going to keep pushing and keep demanding more of the players that we have, but still, we're looking to improve and it's a strange one.

“The league starts very quickly, but then the [transfer] market is open for so long. So we've got to be both good, smart and clever.”

Manchester United have been linked with numerous players including Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have failed to meet the German club’s price valuation for the player hence Michael Zorc’s statement that the player will continue his trade at the Signal Iduna next season.

The Red Devils end of season will invigorate their transfer dealings especially with Premier League clubs involved in new signings to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
