The two teams make their way off the pitch following a goalless draw in the Merseyside derby

The Merseyside Derby ended in a goalless draw at the Goodison Park.

Everton became the third side to take points off Liverpool this season after Manchester United and the Reds loss against Watford.

The winless game means Liverpool have to wait if Burnley can beat Manchester City on Monday night and perhaps, a win against Crystal Palace on Wednesday can secure them the title.

If the Clarets agenda fails, then Liverpool will look to Chelsea on Thursday to beat City for their coronation.

The two, Everton and Liverpool were sloppy in the first half yet possession was always for the Res to dominate as the Toffees looked to hit them on the counter.

Minamino set the ball rolling in the 34-minute when he nicked it off Gomes and Liverpool were so quick in their transition. Henderson fired one into Mane who knocked it back to Firmino on the edge. He had options at either side but decided to drill one low towards the far corner.

Liverpool’s James Milner ended his match before half time.

In the second half, the best opportunities went Everton's way as Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied by a low save from Alisson and Tom Davies struck a post on the follow-up. Calvert-Lewin then headed wide before Richarlison had a further effort blocked.

Liverpool had a Fabinho free-kick tipped over by Jordan Pickford in stoppage time after Oxlade Chamberlain was wiped by Richarlison 22 yards out.

It’s the second successive away match Liverpool have dropped points in, meaning the earliest they can win the title is on Wednesday if second-placed Manchester City lose to Burnley on Monday night.

Liverpool are now on 83 points, 23 above City, who have nine matches left. Everton are 12th with 38 points.
