We can't demonstrate, because we have an intolerant government-Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpurye

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Odododiodio constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpurye has explained why the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has not demonstrated against what he termed undemocratic tendencies under the ruling Akufo Addo-Bawumia led administration.

The Odododiodio lawmaker disclosed that despite the outrageous excesses and lawlessness amongst current government officials and the personnel within the security services, the opposition National Democratic Congress would not like to risk the lives of citizens who would throng the streets to register their displeasure at the happenings should the NDC decides to stage a protest.

He said the right of citizens under the current administration has been curtailed b
stating the "elements within the government have the penchant to instruct personnel they have planted in the Ghana Police Service(GPS) to deal with opposition politicians.

He observed, "that is why the NDC has no pleasure amassing innocent Ghanaians onto the street to press home for their rights yet.

He stressed that such intent elements which have been fused into the service who take instructions from polite ical elements in the the the government to unleash their lawless venom on unsuspecting Ghanaians just because they have decided to express their legitimate and democratic rights would not be able to stop them.

He maintained that though the NDC was much aware that it possess the power to rescue the country from the abyssal performance of the current government,t they would have to be careful not to waste any life.

"The power to safeguard the security of Ghana lies with the NDC, but at e moment, we are taking steps to save the country from this undemocratic NPP government".

"Even though we are much aware that if we should demonstrate now, they will lunch an attack on us, we will prove to them that we are not the soft type as they may think", he sounded a warning.

He explained citing the passage of the obnoxious e-levy where the Minority Leader, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu stated categorically that the NDCs were not going to be part of the e-levy passage and staged a walk-out, yet the NPP who had just 136 members on the floor of Parliament, went ahead to pass the e-levy into law.

"Even when we deemed it appropriate to challenge the unlawful act that took place on the floor of parliament at the Supreme Court, in the wisdom of judges, their verdict on quorum as defiled", he further added.
"Lawyer Abdulai went to court knowing very well that the Supr e-Court has the ultimate locus to bring finality to the matter but on the contrary, the Suprjudgment gave a judgment which leaves much to be desired", he added.
"This means, under Akufo-Addo, the law has been thrown to the dogs.NPP has no respect for rule of law", he stressed.

He disclosed in a radio interview monitored by Soireenews.com explaining why the party had not demonstrated despite the anti-government behavior of the Akufo Addo-Bawumia.

He noted that he has been a victim of such barbaric treatment during the December 7, 2020 election when a Commander instructed police personnel who had been handcuffed to take off same but the person who was receiving contrary instructionspoliticians over the phone declined the Commander's order.
He said the response instead was, "I don't take orders from you".

He however cautioned in an adage that when water overwhelms a frog, it repels".
He concluded that "No one can curtail the rights of people for life".
