THE DIRECTOR of Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr William Boateng, has shoot down the current viral claim suggesting that the Volta River Authority (VRA) has given directive to all the residents living in the communities in lower Volta basin, affected by floods as a result of the spillage from the Akosombo Dam should not pay their monthly electricity bills in the this heavily burdened time.

According to him, the VRA has not discussed anything of that arrangements with the management of the ECG,saying that the information is complete falsehoods and misleading and that it should be disregarded.
The outspoken communications expert
stressed that there is nothing like that in the pipeline, calling on the residents to continue paying their electricity bills on time to avoid consequences.
Mr Boateng was responding to the current concerns being raised by some residents living in the communities in lower Volta basin that they were asked by the VRA not to pay electricity bills due to the flood disaster that had rocked them on October 2023.
Scores of the affected residents of the Volta River disaster told the Soireenews.com on Wednesday January 31, 2024 that they couldn't fathom why the ECG still brought them the bills on their electricity consumption to pay since they were told by VRA not to pay their monthly electricity bills.
The residents stated that they were told that the VRA would fully take responsibility of their electricity consumption bills in this pressing time and expressed shock of receiving bills from the ECG to be paid themselves.
However, many of them have declared their stand not to pay the current electricity bills which have been brought to them by the ECG
