The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Mponua District Assembly in the South-Western part of the Ashanti Region, Honorable Isaac Kofi Marfo has rubbished a wide spread allegations leveled against him that he is the one behind the ongoing illegal small scale mining activities on the River Offin water bodies, land and forest reserves in the district.

LThe District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Mponua District Assembly in the South-Western part of the Ashanti Region, Honorable Isaac Kofi Marfo has rubbished a wide spread allegations leveled against him that he is the one behind the ongoing illegal small scale mining activities on the River Offin water bodies, land and forest reserves in the district.
 
The DCE indicated that since he has been appointed the DCE by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and subsequently confirmed by the Assembly members, he has been actively engaging various traditional authorities and custodian land owners in the various communities within the district to sort their assistance to clamp down the activities of illegal small scale mining in the catchment areas.
He mentioned that since the engagement, his outfit has been at the forefront of supporting various state mining taskforce and Assembly taskforce with boats, pick-ups, money for fuel to chase out illegal miners who operate on the water bodies and seize all equipment to safeguard land, forest reserves and water bodies from the cruel hands of illegal small scale miners.
He stressed that the general public should disregard the current information that went viral in the social, local and traditional media platforms that he has not been helping the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to flush out illegal small scale miners on the Ofin River which flows through the Tano Ofin Reserve in Ghana's Atwima Mponua District.
 
"I swear heaven and earth that l didn't involved or not a brain behind the ongoing illegal small scale mining activities in the district. Having being the current DCE and the law abiding citizen of Ghana and the former Assembly member and as well as the long serving chairman of Atwima Mponua Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, l would be the last person to go contrary to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo order to fight irresponsible mining activities in the country," Mr. Marfo emphasized.
 
The hard working DCE was speaking in an interview with journalist to respond to some allegations leveled against him that he is the one behind the  current ongoing illegal mining
activities in the Atwima Mponua District.
 
The DCE stated that his enemies who are making such allegations against him were making it because of personal hatred and described the allegations as untrue and unfounded.
 
"I am asking these of enemies that if indeed l have been the one behind the ongoing illegal mining activities in the area why is it that l have played a leading role which has led to the arrest of nine (9) persons on Sunday August 14, 2022  who were allegedly engaged in illegal mining activities on River Offin in Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region," Mr. Marfo rethorically asked.
The nine persons were identified as  Kwadwo Bosompem 30, Doga Etse 31,Winner Soyi 25,Noah Baba 22, Ayettey Anaglo 38, Collins True 24, Amanuve Kpaleba 22, Bandim Andrews 42 and Winfred Nyatorwunu 33.
According to the DCE, several barrels of diesel, boats, Chamfan generator and other mining equipment worth thousands of Ghana Cedis have been seized from illegal miners popularly known as galamsey on the River Offin enclave.
He indicated that the current arrest of these persons was part of his daily routine to clamp down the activities of illegal mining in the catchment areas.
According to him, he actively involved in the visit to mining areas to chase out dozens of illegal miners, as part of his efforts to eradicate illegal mining in the district.
The DCE indicated that the persons would soon be arraigned before court and the police has started investigations to unravel the true of the illegal small scale mining activities in the area.
