Vetting for Nana Addo's appointees to commence February 10

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will begin the vetting of persons nominated by President Akufo-Addo for ministerial positions from Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

According to the Ranking Member of the Committee, Haruna Iddrisu, priority will be given to the scrutiny of some nominees such as the Minister-designate for Health, National Security and Finance.

Haruna Iddrisu said the committee will be keen on assessing the Minister designate for health due to the situation with COVID-19 in the country.

He hinted that the minister-designate for health may be the first to be vetted.

“The Appointments Committee has met, and we are requresting for public memorandi in respect of all the president’s nominees for all the ministerial positions. We are expected to commence betting on the 10th of February. Priority will be given to some ministers, in particular Health because of the COVID situation in the country, and probably he will be the first minister to be considered by our committee followed by those other ministers of National Security and Finance. Our clerk is working to get the publication to all the media houses,” he noted, peaking on the Floor of the House on Friday, January 29, 2021, as quoted by citinewsroom.

Meanwhile, NDC MP for for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine has said the Committee  will make sure appointees that have blots on their personalities and career will not be approved.

According to him, any nominee with a history of violence will be rejected by the committee.

“It mustn’t be the case that anybody the president brings even if the person is a thief or a hooligan or somebody who goes about slapping people and shooting people all over the place, the person should be vetted and approved to become a minister,” Dr Dominic Ayine said in an interview on Metro TV's "Good Evening Ghana"
