Gini Wijnaldum has spoken of the inspiration behind his second goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers saying, it was a special request from Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman captain was at Anfield on Sunday night to witness the ruthless Reds thrashed Wolves by 4-0, thanks to Salah’s opener, Wijnaldum hit, Matip’s header and Semedo’s own goal.

The 30-year-old was released by Henderson who shifted the ball onto his right foot before curling it beyond Patricio and into the top corner in front of the Kop.

“I already said that every goal I score this year I will dedicate to him because we all miss him,” Wijnaldum told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It was great to have him back. He said to me in the dressing room, ‘I want to see something today, I want a goal’ so I said: ‘No problem!’”

Caoimhin Kelleher kept another clean sheet in the absence of Alisson Becker following the game against Ajax in the Champions League last Wednesday – making a first crucial save to deny Wolves an equalizer and a second a few to keep the Reds in the game before the first half.

“Unbelievable. You see the kind of saves that he made today and also against Ajax, that helped us a lot also during the game,” Wijnaldum added.

“Like I just said, if it’s 1-0 and you concede a goal then the other team will get confidence and then you have to work harder again to score another goal and he kept us in the game. So yeah, a really big compliment to Caoimhin.”
