National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lacked commitment to ensure the fight against i illegally mining activities in the country which have been destroying water bodies, forest reserves and environment in the mining prone areas.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Thursday October 6, 2022, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi stressed that President Akufo Addo when voted into office did not promise Ghanaians of fighting against galamsey but to support activities of galamsey.
According to him, President Akufo Addo vowed to Ghanaians that he eliminate activities of galamsey when voted into office but rather failed.
"If President Akufo-Addo want Ghanaians to take him serious must therefore adhere to the following demand with immediate effect.
According to him the following personality are involved in the activities such as NPP party members .These party members include Chairman Wontumi , Charles Busue, and even the missing Excavators .
He demanded for the immediate prosecution of all government functionaries and NPP official who have engaged themselves in illegal mining (Galamsey) activities such as Charles Bissue, Chairman Wontumi, Andy Owusu, Ekow Awusi, Prof. Frimpong Boateng among others.
 According to him, this will be the first step to redemption and serve as a deterrent to other people within the government and the party.
He further demanded that all the so called illegal mining companies like the Akonta Mining Limited which belongs to chairman Wontumi and Heritage Imperial Mining Company which belongs to Mr. Donald Entuah , a known finance of the NPP who have invaded forest reserves without any mining leases or permits, must be closed down and prosecuted. 
He added that assets of these companies must be confiscated and their owners surcharged with costs of the destruction of those forest reserves.
Mr Gyamfi demanded that all security personnel complicit in illegal mining activities should be made to face internal investigations and discharge from the various services to serve as deterrent to other .
"Until president Nana Addo undertake the above actions faithfully, the so called renewed fight against"Galamsey" will remain a mirage. And will be remembered by posterity as tbe President who promoted illegal mining by his appointees," he stressed.
