Man City players celebrate Mahrez strike

Manchester City are in the Champions League final for the first time in the club’s history after a 4-1 aggregate against Paris Saint Germain in the semifinals.

Riyad Mahrez’s brace frustrated the Ligue 1 outfits as they ended the game by 2-0 to end Pep Guardiola’s Champions League final barrenness since 2011.

They also extended their unbeaten run at home in the Champions League to 14 and will look forward to winning their first trophy at Istanbul.

Riyad Mahrez shot City in front in the 11-minute to worsen PSG’s woes. Ederson's searching pass from his own area set Zinchenko scampering down the left. He cut it back for De Bruyne on the edge of the box. The Belgian international's shot was blocked, but the other scorer from the first leg was quick to the rebound, side-footing home from an acute angle.

Di Maria had the chance to level the scores in the 19-minute but misdirected his shot out of range after dispossessing Bernardo Silva following the 'keeper's quick throw. The Argentina international's curling effort flashed just wide of the upright, with the home stopper still sprinting back to the middle of his goal.

PSG kept entering City’s defensive line but were blocked from registering any meaningful shot towards goal.

The away side started strongly with possession but lacked the ability to connect at the end.

Mahrez scored his second 18 minutes into the second half after PSG unutilized corner kick when Florenzi's loose pass is pounced upon by Zinchenko just outside the City area. Foden was sent clear down the left, exchanged passes with De Bruyne before picking out the goalscorer with a low cross to scoop the ball over Navas' dive to double the lead.

Di Maria was sent off after an encounter with Fernandinho after the ball had gone out of play.

The game ended 2-0 and Man City is the 42nd different team to reach a European Cup/UEFA Champions League final.
