Tribunal hears bid to annul Tinubu's election win

Inec is arguing that the case should be upheld and that technical issues and an increase in traffic were to blame for the delays in uploading the results, which reflected the electorate's will in the end.

Tribunal hears bid to annul Tinubu's election win

Several opposition candidates in Nigeria have filed a petition with a tribunal seeking to have Bola Tinubu's victory in the February presidential election declared invalid.

On a number of grounds, including the Independent National Electoral Commission's (Inec) failure to post the results on its website portal in real-time, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar are contesting Mr. Tinubu's victory.

They claim that doing so violated both the Electoral Act and Inec's commitment to transparency.

Mr. Obi, who ran for president for the first time and was well-liked by youthful voters in the south, was present in court for the beginning of the case.

The effort to overturn the outcome has the support of at least three other opposition politicians.

No decision is anticipated prior to Mr. Tinubu's inauguration on May 29.

With 37% of the vote, he was officially proclaimed the victor. Mr. Abubakar received 29%, and Mr. Obi received 25%.

President Muhammadu Buhari, a member of the ruling party, will be succeeded by Mr. Tinubu after serving two terms in office.
