One of the three Anglogold workerstrapped underground has been confirmed dead.

The incident occured on May 18 and the rescue team who got deployed to the scene did a great job rescuing two leaving one.

Unfortunately, Anglo-gold Ashanti has released an official statement confirming the death of the trapped man.

The man identified as Daniel Nuertey Kwao Quaynortey according to the official statement signed by the managing director of Anglo-gold Ashanti, Mr Eric Asubonteng said,Daniel was found alive but unfortunately couldn't survive the injuries sustained thereby kicking the bucket.

Daniel is said to have left behind a family of four, his wife, Martha and three Children.

It is with great sadness that I report that though our colleague Daniel Nuertey-Kwao Quaynortey, who went missing in an underground fall of ground incident on 18th May has been found, unfortunately, Daniel did not survive his injuries.  

Daniel, 46 years, is survived by his wife, Martha and three children (Love, Juliana and Nyerngor).  

Daniel’s family have been informed of this unfortunate outcome and are being given support in this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with them. May his soul rest in peace. 

I wish to sincerely thank the search and rescue teams for their commitment to finding Daniel, in what has been very difficult circumstances.
