Series of backlashes have been hit at the Premier League top six who declared their intentions condemnation of any plans to support the decision.

Reports were confirmed on Sunday that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham intend to join a rebel competition.
AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid are also joining as founding clubs, with three more clubs expected to follow before the inaugural season, talkSPORTS revealed.

The backlash has been both fierce and prompt, with club legends including Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville calling their clubs a 'disgrace' and others requesting for all Premier League clubs that supported the motion to be relegated and their titles stripped off them.

“What an embarrassment we've become @LFC,” Carragher tweeted yesterday. “Think of all the people who have come before us at this club who would be equally embarrassed as well. superleague.”

Neville told Skysports that, “It is an absolute disgrace. Honestly, we have to wrestle back power in this country from the clubs at the top of this league, and that includes my club.

“The motivation is greed. Deduct them all points tomorrow, put them at the bottom of the league and take the money off them. Seriously, you have got to stamp on this."

According to the Premier League in a statement on Sunday, “fans of any club in England and across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top and play against the best. We believe that the concept of a European Super League would destroy this dream.

“The Premier League is proud to run a competitive and compelling football competition that has made it the most widely watched league in the world. Our success has enabled us to make an unrivalled financial contribution to the domestic football pyramid.

“A European Super League will undermine the appeal of the whole game and have a deeply damaging impact on the immediate and future prospects of the Premier League and its member clubs, and all those in football who rely on our funding and solidarity to prosper.

“We will work with fans, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA, as well as other stakeholders, at home and abroad, to defend the integrity and future prospects of English football in the best interests of the game.”
