Gary Neville believes that Manchester United needs few players to reinforce their current squad before attaining the level of winning trophies.

The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight after Bruno Fernandes brace and Mason Greenwood’s opener ensured a 3-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex.

Manchester United are contending for a top-four spot having moved above Wolves on goal difference and just three points behind Chelsea and four of Leicester.

The former player and sports pundit believe the team is heading in the right direction yet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must support the young squad with few experienced signings to make them decisive in games.

"This team is a lot more likable than the one which was here two years ago when you thought Manchester United’s recruitment had lost direction.

"But l would urge some caution.

"Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League. They have a squad that is improving with young players. But there is still some work to be done in the transfer market to get this team to a title-winning team – which has to be Manchester United’s ambition,” he added.

Bruno’s Fernandes inclusion in the Manchester United setup has been uplifting. He made a switch from Sporting Lisbon in January in a $60.4 million with up to $27 million more in potential add-ons. His potency has earned the team consistency making 13 appearances and scoring six goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.

He has steadied the midfield and United's ambition of playing in the Champions League next season is on course - Neville demands such signings to cream the team.

"There is more needed and a lot more needed: Three or four players of high quality of the Bruno Fernandes type to get them to the point where they can challenge.," he added.
