The FIFA World No.1 team has proven they deserve the top spot in the ranking by dethroning the defending champion Portugal.

Belgium has now set up a qualifying clash in the quarter-finals stage with the Azzuris of Italy on Friday – July 2nd, at Munich.

The battle of supremacy between the Red Devils and the Azzuris is already being billed as a 'blockbuster'.

So far, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands were the only teams that won all their matches in Group A, B and C respectively with the latter eliminated by the Czechs.

Belgium defeated Portugal 1-0 in Seville on Sunday evening and has set up a quarterfinal clash with Italy, which is already being billed as a 'blockbuster'.

Thorgan’s swerving shot which came in the 43rd minute was enough to seal the deal for the Red Devils.

The Portuguese fought back hard in the second half but were unable to find the net, with their talisman – Cristiano Ronaldo failing to add to his five goals in the tournament.

Ronaldo remains tied with former Iran striker Ali Daei at 109 goals in the number of most international goals.

Despite the victory, Belgium's performance was considered uninspiring. The attack, consisting of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku, struggled in the match.

"In these kinds of games you have to grab your chances with both hands and voila, the goalkeeper expected me to choose the other corner, so the ball went in." The goalscorer said.
