It should be noted that The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), established under ACT 538, 1997 has a principal mandate of regulating and overseeing the provision of utility services by public utilities to consumers.

In a press statement signed by the Ranking Member of Mines and Energy Committee, John Abdulai Jinapor, it is therefore preposterous for the utility companies to propose such astronomical tariff adjustments dating back to 2019.
It will be recalled that the Minority cautioned President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when the President during the 2018 State of the Nation address decided to announce electricity tariff reductions contrary to the PURC act.
