Teachers of Akro Senior High Technical School in Odumase Krobo, in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana, are seething with anger over staff at Ghana Education Office in Lower Manya Krobo.

The student per the teacher's report has allegedly discarded a letter containing recommendations made by the disciplinary committee of the school and approved by the Board on a student who attacked a teacher and stabbed a security man on duty.

A visual arts student of Akro Senior High Technical School in June this year assaulted a teacher for asking him and his colleagues to stop disturbing other students who were writing mock exams.

He also stabbed one of the school’s security officers in the chest when he was overpowered by security officials to hand him over to the police. The security officer was treated and discharged at Atuah Government Hospital while the student was fined by Odumase circuit Court.

The disciplinary committee of the school investigated the incident and prescribed sanctions for the student and his other accomplices.

The teachers were expecting that the student is not allowed to write the WASSCE examination in the School but shown up to write.

They found out that the recommendations sent to the Board of the school, approved and forwarded to Lower Manya Municipal Education Directorate for same to be forwarded to the Regional Directorate and subsequently the Director-General of GES for final approval has however not been received.

They alleged that staff at the office of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Education Directorate, identified as Christopher Tetteh allegedly hid and discarded the letter because his younger brother was part of students recommended to be punished hence the deliberate attempt to truncate the process.

On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, the student was briefly blocked from entering the examination hall when he appeared to write the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

It took the intervention of the Municipal Education Director Odoi Kwaku Williams who rushed to the school to resolve the issue. It was when he became aware that a letter written to his has been intercepted and discarded by staff at the office.

She asked the Headmaster of the school to reprint the letter for it to be forwarded to the appropriate quarters.

The teachers are threatening to boycott invigilation if the student is allowed to continue writing the examination in the school in the absence of final determination on his case by the Director-General of GES.
