Sudan begins talks to bring army factions together

Talks between Sudan's military and political officials have started in Khartoum about putting the army in charge of the RSF, a militia supported by the government.

These were two of the main requests of the civil organizations that assisted in the 2019 overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir.

The discussions on Sunday were a part of a deal that was reached in December and is slated to be officially adopted in less than two weeks.

Its goal is to open the way for a return to democratic rule.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the army commander who overthrew the government in a coup two years ago, declared he wanted to stop the armed forces from supporting dictatorial regimes in Sudan.
