Militia execute 17 hostages in DR Congo hotspot

In the Djugu region of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Codeco militia group killed 17 prisoners on Sunday.

According to UN-sponsored Radio Okapi, the victims were traveling in four cars that were headed to Mungwalu in Ituri province.

After three Codeco members were killed in an altercation with an opposing militia, they were taken prisoner, the radio reported.

According to the AFP news agency, a pregnant woman was one of those held hostage.

The attack has not yet been addressed by local officials.
