Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency within the Ashanti Region has hinted that he was not going back to Parliament at the expiration of his current terms of office as MP. Being one of Ghana’s longest-serving lawmakers, Honorable. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that he will not contest for his seat in Parliament after almost three decades. The Majority Leader in Parliament and leader of Government Business in a recent interview noted that, per his age, and the several times he has been in Parliament, it was time he bowed out of the house. He was responding to a question on whether or not Ghanaians would see him again in the 9th Parliament of Ghana. Honorable Osei Mensah stated categorically “I have said it clearly that, per my age, I will end it here and show my gratitude”. According to him, though some leaders in his party are calling for him to return to the house in 2025, he has not thought of going back. “People in my party both regional and national are calling and insisting that they need me but as at this time talking to you. I have spoken and made my stance clear”, he revealed. Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu while arguing on why he may not seek reelection stated that, “you bow out when the applause is loud”. “I know the pressure that has come on me, but we are not going to discuss it on the radio, we will talk about it later”, he noted.
