Stop NIA Registration, Or I Drag You to Court – Former Minister to Akufo-Addo
Dr Omane Boamah

Former Minster of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Edward Omane Boamah has threatened to go to court to compel the Akufo-Addo led government to suspend the Ghana Card registration amidst growing Covid-19 fears.

This follows the announcement that Ghana has recorded two more confirmed cases of Covid-19 bringing the total tally to 9 as of Thursday, March 19, 2020.

Mr Boamah made his intentions known via social media, commenting on the continuous growth of covid-19 cases in the country.

So far, 235 cases of the deadly virus had been registered in sub-Saharan Africa, which makes it the least-affected region in a global pandemic, yet the

World Health Organization, (WHO) has warned African countries to prepare for the worst as coronavirus cases increase in the continent.

Commenting on the same issue, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the continued Ghana Card registration shows the government disregard for the public’s safety amidst the covid-19 outbreak.

“Do we really mean to ensure the public safety and protection? What value do we place on public safety and protecting the citizenry when our parochial electoral fortunes are at stake?

If the NIA continues to get away with their reckless and most dangerous conduct as the Ghana Medical Association has noted, then, what’s the point inn supporting any piece of legislation that grants the President sweeping powers ostensibly to protect us but which would be contemptuously disregarded by his own appointees” he said on Facebook today [March 19, 2020].

He questioned that “why is president Akufo-Addo still tolerating the reckless disrespect of his office and his directives by his own appointees at the NIA, or as is becoming clear, do they have his full blessing?”

The MP noted that, the Covid-19 outbreak can only be controlled with collective efforts from all individuals in the country.
“I insist that only through a sincere, serious, scientific and collective effort, can we win the war against Covid-19”
