Speaker backs parliament broke comment with evidence.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honorable Alban Sumana Bagbin
has provided account evidence of the disbursement by the Finance Ministry to Parliament.

The said disbursement by the Finance Ministry to the House was part of statutory budgetary allocations to the House which allocations were not fully paid.
It was based on this that the Speaker last Thursday, May 26, 2022, made an emphatic statement that parliament was broken.

But the Speaker's comment was consequently refuted by the majority leader at a press conference coupled with the same comment by the Majority Whip, Honourable Annoh Dompreh in the House.

The Speaker, however, corroborated his earlier statement with evidence of account.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance first disbursed a total of GHS7 million out of arrears of GHS54 million last year,2021 parliamentary budget.

The second disbursement was released a day after the Speaker's comment about Parliament running on arrears.

This was brought to the fore when the
Majority Leader, Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu sort to point out to the House that his comment on the radio concerning the Speaker's comment of Parliament running on arrears and delays in disbursement of Parliamentary funds by the ministry of finance was inappropriate.

But the Speaker maintained that no budgetary allocations ad been released for the year 2022 not to talk of clearing the remaining GHS22million of the 2021 arrears to  Parliament.
