Dr Letsa calls on Assembly members to unanimously confirm MDCE nominees in Volta

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yaw Letsa, has appealed to Assembly members across the region to vote and unanimously confirm Municipal District Chief Executives (MDCE) nominees President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo -Addo to quicken social-economic development in the region.

He further called on the government appointees to work with presiding members of assemblies to ensure a confirmation process with minimal rejections and without delays.

The Volta Regional Minister made the call in the reaction to allegations levelled against him that he is the brain behind the current diabolical move to block the appointment of the thirteen (13) Municipal District Chiefs Executives (MDCEs) that has already been recommended to President Nana Addo-Addo Dankwa by the Dan Botwe Chaired 2020 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDECS) Vetting Committee.

In the inception of maintaining names of the five nominees recommended by the committee in the five districts; North Dayi, Afadzato South, Ho West, Ketu North and Akatsi South, Dr Latse has twisted the arms of appointing authorities to change the names of 13 persons recommended by the committee without recourse to the petitions and concerns of various chiefs and stakeholders of the NPP in the region.

They stated that the Volta Regional Minister claimed in his open verbal statement to the state appointing authority that he cannot work with the 13 persons who were earlier nominated by the Committee to be appointed MDCEs to run affairs of the various assemblies in the region.

They further went on to say, Dr Latse through Dr Darko pointed out to the state appointing authorities that the majority of the persons nominated by the Dan Botwe Chaired committee are from the camp of Minister of Trade and Industry Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, hence their decision to influence the state appointing authority and the President to withdraw the names of 13 persons already nominated and replace them with Dr Latse and Mr Dr Darko close associates.

But in a quick rebuttal, Dr Letsa flatly denied the allegations, saying that the stories are concocted to tarnish his image in the eyes of right-thinking members of the NPP and society at large.

He quizzed why our reporter is entertaining such a statement from his critics stating  "am l the President of Ghana to appoint the persons to the state institutions?"

Dr Latse noted that it is the constitutional right of the President to take the final decision to appoint people to run administrative affairs of the Assemblies and "so you must allow my critics to say whatever they want to say."

The NPP stalwart denied that he has played influential roles in the connection of appointing the persons to MDCEs, saying that "Do l have the power to go and tell President to appoint or not to appoint somebody to be the MDCEs?"

According to him, the leaked MMDCEs report that recommended those personalities for the position of MDCEs was fake.

"It is a fake report," he stressed, asking that have you ever see an official or credible committee report without stamped and signed by the members of the committee before.

"Have you seen that such committee report was signed by anybody? Even the so-called leaked report has the headline written wrongly. It is a fake report cooked by some people to achieve their parochial selfish interest and they used the fake report to deceived a lot of people who are not confident that they are going to be nominated and they were nominated. So they got disappointed" he stated

He maintained that the President has the final say to make informed decisions to nominate and that role cannot be played by the ministers per the constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

He has therefore called on the assembly members and government appointees to vote massively to confirm the nominees in order to start their work to bring sustainable development to the region.
