Second Phase of Cleanup Exercise held in Tamale

The Northern Regional Minister hinted the next phase of the exercise will include; Education on the risk and dangers associated with an unhealthy environment, irresponsible behaviour and unhygienic conditions amongst others.

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu and Members of some State Institutions have held the second phase cleanup exercise in the Tamale and its adjoining communities.

The exercise, dubbed "Operation Clean Northern Region" campaign brought together staff of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and Personnel from the various security services over the weekend.

The aim of the exercise, according to the Regional Minister is geared to encourage the chiefs and people of the area to develop a sense of good hygienic practices and also to help prevent the spread of diseases.

He was optimistic that the initiative will support the people to develop positive attitudes towards good health practices and serves as a way of reducing the flooding incidence in most parts of the Region. 

Speaking at the event, the Regional Minister however hinted that the next phase of the exercise will include; Education on the risk and dangers associated with an unhealthy environment, irresponsible behaviour and unhygienic conditions amongst others. 

The Minister added that the next stage of the exercise will also engage stakeholders including chiefs in various communities under his jurisdiction to discuss issues of personal hygiene and as well identify unforeseen challenges in realising sustainable hygiene practices and suggest possible strategies to remedy the situations.

He said this will encourage personal hygiene among people across the region and beyond.
