THE second failed attempts of the Ga South Municipal Assembly to elect a Presiding Member (MP) would likely to make the Assembly to face setbacks in implementing its development policies and strategies.
The Municipal Coordinating Director who doubles as the acting Presiding Member of Ga-South Municipal Assembly, Mrs Eugenia Agbenyegah,raised a red flag over the failed attempts of the Assembly for the second time to elect its MP and expressed worry over the development.
Ga South Municipal Assembly failed in a bid to elect Presiding Member in two consecutive attempts of the elections supervised by the officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Two contenders’ namely; Peter Adonu of Hobor Electoral Area secured 10 votes whiles Winfred Aryetey a Government Appointee had 18 votes with I rejected ballot in the first round.
The process required two thirds majority in order to secure a win which both failed. A second attempt was no different, Peter Adonu having 14 and Winfred Aryetey 14 votes, I rejected the ballot.
Unfortunately for the second time the election could not fetch the needed result and none of the contestants have been able to pulled two-thirds of the total votes cast as required by law.
In his address to the Assembly members, Mrs Eugenia Agbenyegah cautioned the political party leadership executives in the constituency to stop their interference in the Assembly's proceedings during the elections.
For his part, the Ga-South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) ,Mr Joseph Nyarni advised the Assembly Members for their mandatory role played in fulfillment of the Local Governance Act, Act 936.
The MCE noted that, this is the first time the assembly is witnessing a second failed attempts to elect a Presiding Member since its inception.
He advised them to put out politics behind and do the needful.
Adding his voice, the immediate past Presiding Member (PM), Mr Abdul Wahab Mohammed, who was once a member of the house at the Ga-South Municipal Assembly advised the Assembly Members to consider the development of the municipality rather than doing something that would affect the development of the area.
