Dejan Lovren is confident Mohamed Salah would commit his future to Liverpool following speculations over his career.

The former Liverpool defender who helped the Reds win the Premier League before heading to Zenit Saint Petersburg is still in touch with the Egyptian and has winded down speculations that Salah could quit Liverpool when his contract ends.

The forward’s current contract with the Champions ends in 2023 and has recently hinted his desire to feature for one of the Spanish giants- Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The forward spoke his frustration when he was denied captain’s armband in the Reds Champions league fixture against FC Midtjylland in Denmark following injuries to Jordan Henderson and James Milner. In the absence of Virgil van Dijk, the 28-year old thought he was next in line to lead the side but was surprised to see local born, Trent Arnold Alexander mandated.

Lovren says regardless of the media trying to read different meaning in Salah’s words, the Reds prolific goalscorer will commit his future on a long term at Anfield.

“I'm still in communication with Mo Salah. We are still the best buddies, even outside football, and we talk about everything.

“Individually, when you look at the amount of goals he's scored, he's doing amazingly at the moment.

“Mo is in the best age of his football career at 28. Maybe he looks a bit older but he's in the peak of his form so why not stay another four, five, six years?”

Salah is on top of the Golden Boot race with 16 goals despite Liverpool’s dip in form in the new year.
