Residents Of Ayikai Doblo Peace Village Appeal For Bridge On Oware Dam To Enable Them To Do Their Daily Activities
RESIDENTS living at Oware Dam area of
Ayikai Doblo Peace Village in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have appealed to central government, individuals and philanthropists for support to construct modern bridge over the Oware Dam connecting the area for easy vehicular movement.

The residents led by their traditional leader of the community, Nii Gamu Peace Village I stressed that the reconstruction of bridge on Oware Dam in this area is very important since it would enhance free movement of people to market centres and job places.

They noted that when it rains heavily, the place overflowed because of the volume of the water which passes through the place to the Densu river.
They indicated that bridge connects Ayikai Doblo Peace Village, Manhea, Nsakina Oduman and Ablekuma but due to its weak nature, the bridge is out-of-bounds for vehicles.

However, the people of 7,000 population noted that they are in dire need for the modern bridge to be built to argument the situation, because the already existence bridge built on the Oware Dam through the communal labour by the residents is too weak and small.
The distraught residents have spoken extensively on how unavailability of the strong modern bridge along the Oware Dam in the area is adversely affecting the education, business, health and economic activities of the people living in Ayikai Doblo Peace Village.
They expressed worry about how students from the Ayikai Doblo and its adjoining communities risky their lives crossing the water when it rains heavily to be able to access the education.

When it rains, because of the low level of the bridge the whole place got flooded, preventing the large population of the students to access education since they cannot risk their lives to swim through the flooding water to school.

They said the only public basic school in the area is located at Ayikai Doblo and that the students living in Peace Village stretch usually passed through the bridge to the school but when there is a heavy down pour the bridge is not accessible for the residents/students.
They lamented the water blocked the movement on their man made bridge and that the students have to walk from distance of about six (6) kilometres to go and pass through Obeyeye stretch before getting to the school at Ayikai Doblo.
According to them, frightening situation has been affecting education of the children in the area

They pointed out that the situation was alarming because it prevented some of the younger ones from attending school because they could no longer risk their lives to swim to cross the water.

Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.
com on Wednesday January 10, 2024, the spokesperson for the Oware Dam area of  Ayikai Doblo Peace Village, Mr Kisi Wiafe Akenten expressed misgivings about the leadership of the Ga West Municipal Assembly headed by Clement Wilkinson to ignore their request made to the Assembly for support to construct the bridge.

According to him, when the leadership of the area had consulted the Assembly for the support to build the bridge, it has responded to them that it has no budget for the construction of their bridge.
He described the response from the Assembly as worry, weak” bridge collapsed under the weight of the truck lamenting that over the years when it rains, they have been suffering to access the bridge to do their daily activities because of the flooding situation in the place.
He said they have mobilized themselves and contributed some fund to construct the bridge themselves but the contribution of the fund for the project is not forthcoming.
He noted that they were expected to finish ongoing project before it started raining because the raining water would definitely wash the uncompleted bridge away if they couldn't meet it completion deadline hence their urgent call for the support from the government, individuals and philanthropists to help build the bridge in the area.
Mr Akenten on behalf of the residents, therefore, lauded the Member of Parliament (MP) for Amasaman Constituency, Honourable Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa for his response to support the construction of the bridge.

He noted that a couple of weeks ago when the MP visited the area as part of efforts to grade a road in the area, the stakesholders of the community approached him to request from his assistance and that the MP has given assurance to help them.

But he was quick to state that they were expecting the MP to fulfill his promise on time to help fix the problem to ensure easy movement on the bridge in the area.
Mr Akenten noted that the  MP also interacted with the residents including Nii Gamu Peace Village I to reassure them of his continuous efforts to improve development in the area.
