Regional Security Council Visits Lamashegu Naa's Palace Over Police Shootings

A joint security council comprised of the Regional security council (REGSEC) and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) paid a courtesy call on Lamashegu chief today Monday.

This was about yesterday's shooting incident at Lamashegu involving the Tamale District Police patrol team while on a routine daily patrol.

One person, believed to be sixteen, was killed in the shooting, while several others were seriously injured.

According to sources, if it hadn't been for the timely intervention of the Lamarche Naa, one of the police officers on patrol on this occasion could have been subjected to a mob attack by the irate youth, among other possible escalations.

The purpose of the visit was thus to de-escalate the tension, commend the chief for saving the situation, and send their condolences to the bereaved family and the rest of the victims, apologies for the incident which otherwise could have been avoided.

They also assured the residents of authorities' determination to get to the bottom of the matter and accordingly punish any officer or officers found culpable among other interventions.

Meanwhile, 6 officers of the patrol team at the center of the controversy have since been interdicted to help in the investigation.

A full-scale investigation has begun, the police command has appealed to the public, particularly residents of Lamashegu for their cooperation in this matter.
