Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has commended his team for the resilient game against RB Leipzig.

Manchester United were 5-0 winners against the Bundesliga side at Old Trafford – MARCUS Rashford came from the bench in the second half to complete a hat trick as Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial were on the scoresheet against last season’s Champions League finalist.

The German’s mapped an intense style at the initial stages of the game which frustrated the Red Devils play but kept the defence functioning from conceding until Mason Greenwood's intelligent goal into the break. Julian Nagelsmann’s side came to close to converting a few chances in the second half but had their finishing line in lacklustre until the Red Devils sub changed the story on Wednesday night.

According to Solskjaer, the starting 11 laid a better foundation in the first half for Rashford to exploit.

“He came on, did well – the impact, of course, we want that from the subs," Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told MUFC TV.

"That’s only possible through when the others have laid the groundwork and what a shift they put in. Because they do make you work Leipzig, the high press, the counter-press, the intensity and we had to really dig deep and work hard for each other.

"Spaces open up when you’re winning, of course, and we knew that today was a day that we had to rest a few because this season is relentless, so we could use the squad. This group is coming together, of course, we’ve added a few quality players and the more quality you have and spirit you have, the better chance you have of a performance.”

Manchester United are on top of H with six points followed by PSG, who recorded a 2-0 win against Istanbul Basaksehir. They face Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League at Old Trafford, a ground they are yet to pick their first win of the season on. Ole spoke that he had to drop a few players ahead of the clash to pick at least a point in that game.

“We made some changes today because of Sunday because you’ve got to be ready for that because, in the league, we have a game fewer than other teams as well, so we have to pick up points.”
