The right to protest does "not give anyone the right to harass, intimidate, or threaten anyone else," according to Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa.

He has also cautioned against doing anything to harm others or their belongings.

It happens in the midst of nationwide demonstrations that the tiny Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party has organized.

They are demanding President Cyril Ramaphosa's resignation during what has been dubbed the national closure and accuse him of corruption and poor management of the energy crisis.

87 people have been detained by South African police in association with the protests so far. Additionally, the state has sent out more than 3,000 troops to protect critical infrastructure.
