The Northern Regional Police Command says it has intensified patrols and visibility at the Nanton Traditional area and its surrounding communities to avert any possible communal related violence.

This follows the attack and humiliation of an old man (Mba Yirisha-Naa) believed to be in his late 60s by palace guards of Nanton Naa Bawa at the palace over the weekend.

The victim was arrested by Nanton Naa Bawa palace guards when he was spotted within their jurisdiction. In a circulated video, the palace guards were seen harassing the old man.

The people of the Nanton Traditional area are divided over two chiefs seen as chiefs (Nanton Naa Bawa and Naa Haruna) for the area, as a result of this, the victim is believed to be a loyalist of Naa Haruna.

The police in a press release signed by the Acting Public Affairs officer, Supt Bernard Baba Ananga noted that they have commenced investigation into the offensive conduct and assault that occurred at the Nanton Naa Bawa's palace.

"The Northern Regional Police Command is investigating a case involving some Community Members and Chief's at Nanton regarding an offensive conduct and assault which are likely to degenerate into the breach of communal peace and security. As a result, the police have intensified patrols and visibility at Nanton and its environs to avert any possible Community related violence".

Supt Bernard in the release urged the youth and opinion leaders to refrain from any form of agitations and resort to due process in resolving the the matter.

Adding that, "The Northern Regional Police Command urges the good people of Nanton and its environs to remain calm as we celebrate and to enjoy the peace during this festive season".
