Police arrest three suspects over clash between NPP, NDC supporters at Nkrankwanta

The police in the Bono Region have arrested three persons in connection with last Saturday's clash between some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) that left one person dead and two others severely injured at Nkrankwanta.

 The three suspects  are Ali Musah, 33, Ibrahim Acquah, 33 and Amos Aning, 38.

The deceased, Kofi Larbeth, 36 who was pronounced dead at the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital was injured in the clash together with two others, Kwame Gutan, 33 and Elliasu Gabriel, 45.

They were all sent to the Dormaa West District District Hospital at Nkrankwanta before Kofi Laberth was referred to the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.

The Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Mr Ali Maiga Halidu said the deceased, Kofi Larbeth, was a member of the NPP while one of the injured was from the side of the NPP and the other from the NDC.

However, a statement from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) signed by Stephen Azorba and Stephen Sarfo, Secretary and Communications Officer of NDC in the Dormaa West Constituency, respectively,  has accused Mr Maiga Halidu for instigating the brawl that resulted in the death of Kofi Larbeth.

The statement alleged that, "the NPP rebel group besieged the office of the Electoral Commission where the mop up exercise of the voter registration was taking place at dawn, ostensibly to manage the security of the place".

It added "the Military and other state security lost control of the situation and were prevented from maintaining law and order from the early hours of 8th August by these hoodlums, adding that "the violent activities of Hon. Ali Maiga Halidu, and his rebels in once peaceful and serene political environment has led to state of anarchy and pandemonium" in the Constituency
