Police apprehend three suspected robbers with AK47 rifle and pump-action gun

According to the Deputy Regional Police Commander of the Northern Region, DCOP. Moses Atibilla, a police investigation revealed that the suspects were recruited by Yapalisi Naa of Vitting, Alhaji Aminu Stubs to escort a newly installed Chief from Banvim to the village.

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected criminals with AK47 rifle and pump-action gun loaded with ammunition in Tamale.

The Police also retrieved a police bulletproof jacket from suspects and have further revealed that the suspects were planning to renew Bagliga Dakpemyili chieftaincy dispute.

The Deputy Regional Police Commander DCOP Moses Atibilla briefing Journalists at the Police headquarters in Tamale,  Monday 24th May 2021 said, the joint Police Operational was carried out by the Northern Regional Police Command and according to him, the suspects include Andani Yakubu Wahid, 30years and Alhaji Abdul Salam Abdul Sobo. 

He said they were intercepted in a Hyundai Santafi with registration number GW 3225-16 in the town.  When the police conducted a search they found, one AK47 assault rifle loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun also loaded with 5 cartridges and a bulletproof vest belonging to the police.

According to Mr Moses, a police investigation revealed that the suspects were recruited by Yapalisi Naa of Vitting, Alhaji Aminu Stubs to escort a newly installed Chief from Banvim to the village.

The two suspects laid ambush with the weapon on the only road leading to the village to attack opponents of the Chieftaincy divide. The joint Police team chanced on them and arrested them.

The registration number of the AK47 rifle has been erased but it's suspected to be police property. 

The police have arrested the said Yapalisi Naa to help in the investigation but the suspect Andani house was searched and an empty AK47 magazine was found in his wardrobe, one local made sword and a jackknife found in the room.

The suspects were arraigned before Tamale District Court today.

But the two suspects were remanded into police custody and one was given bail. They will reappear before court on 31st May 2021.
