Police and the FDA have arrested eight people for distributing unapproved medications.

Eight people were arrested by the Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Food and Pharmaceuticals Authority (FDA) and the Regional Police Command for allegedly possessing and selling unapproved drugs.

Six guys and two females are among the suspects, he said.

The FDA Senior Regulatory Officer, Daniel Nti, told the reporters in Ahafo Goaso that the team visited 14 OTC shops and one pharmacy in Mim and Kasapiin, all in the Asunafo North Municipality.

According to him, unapproved medications were discovered in the defendants' businesses, in violation of FDA regulations.

Mr. Nti also stated that none of the chemical shops in question have a license to sell tramadol, even though huge quantities of the drug were seized.

He has already issued a warning to Ahafo's chemical stores and pharmacies to stop maintaining and selling banned medications.

Mr. Nti went on to say that the FDA, with the help of the police, has devised a variety of techniques to target chemical shops that are participating in such activities.

Meanwhile, DCOP David Eklu, the Ahafo Regional Deputy Police Commander, told the media that the suspects are in jail and aiding with the investigation.

He stated that they will be tried in court soon.

DCOP Eklu stated that the police are always willing to work with the FDA to identify chemical dealers dealing in unlicensed pharmaceuticals to maintain public safety.
