Patients stranded at Hospitals in Ashanti Region over strike action

The strike declared by the Health Services Workers Union has been in full force in government hospitals across the country and has left patients stranded in the majority of government hospitals in the Ashanti Region.

A visit to some hospitals in Ashanti Region such as Suntreso Hospital, Adum Children Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital revealed that there is no nurse to even give out a folder for the patients to see their doctors especially those who came for a review following the strike.

Over 500 patients including children were left stranded at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital from Tuesday when they visited the facility for medical care.

The patients expressing their worry appealed to the government to intervene and ensure the nurses return to work.

Speaking with the Chairman of the Health Workers Union in the Ashanti, Emmanuel Gyamfi Osei, he revealed that until the government pays them their allowances they won’t go to work.

Madam Esther Frimpong a member of the executive committee of the Health Workers Union also pleaded with patients to add their voice to their plea for the government to resolve their challenges.
