The Parliamentary select-committee has inspected the ongoing landfill site projects at Sefwi Wiawso in a community called Aboadidua in the Western North Region.

The chairman of the four selected Committee told the Regional Coordinating Council they would be checking all the landfill site which would be used for Recycling Waste Compost plant.

Honourable Emmanuel A. Gyamfi, the chairman of the select Committee addressing the media during visitation to the landfill sites projects at Sefwi Wiawso revealed how significant the project is to the government to be able to recycle waste and end environmental pollution. 

"This is one of the numerous anchor projects spread across the country and the intention is to help manage waste," he said.

"You (Western North Region) are very lucky that as a new Region you have gotten one of the facility and this committee (about four committees of parliament) have a very common interest in waste management hence our interest to come and see the progress of the project."

The General Manager for Zoomlion Company Limited for Sefwi Wiawso, Isaac Banfo spoke that the integrated recycling and compost plant will employ a direct 80 to 100 people and indirect labour of 500. He expressed that the undertaking will help resolve waste management challenges in the whole Western North Region.

The General Manager for Zoomlion Ghana Limited at Sefwi Wiawso assured residents that the initiative will help recondition 80 per cent of the waste into meaningful incomes and help reduce the pressure at disposable sites. He further assured that the project will soon be completed to serve its purpose.

“This project will help to recycle the waste for compost and manure, and will also serve as wastewater treatment plant to avoid pollution in the various communities. All surrounding communities will benefit from this project by Zoomlion and 80 per cent can be treated whereas to limit the pressure at the disposal sites.

Finally, the Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, Honorable Louis Owusu Agyapong commended the Zoomlion Company Limited for such an innovative approach towards Ghana’s waste and in the Western North capital.

He advised that documentation on land and anything surrounding the project must be considered to avoid any future misunderstanding.

“The assembly was deeply involved in all discussion leading to land acquisition, selecting of contractor and sod cutting, And Zoomlion has also engaged us (the assembly) in any activity including Nananom.

“My advice is for proper documentation so that in my absence, there can be enough evidence for successors to avoid future discomfort and misunderstanding.”
