Outgoing District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West District Assembly in the Central Region, Mr Stephen Kwame Quaye, has pledged to work in harmony with the newly-nominated DCE for the area, Mr Joseph Aidoo for the needed sustainable development and growth.

Mr Aidoo was among the list of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) officially announced by the Local Government Minister on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

According to the outgoing DCE, he personally called Awutu Senya West nominee around 6:30 am on Monday, September 20, 2021, to officially congratulate him and pledged readiness to support him in delivering on his mandate.

“Even after the announcement was made on Sunday, September 19, 2021 l have toured the constituency to educate my supporters and sympathizers to be calmed and accept the DCE nominee for the Awutu Senya West and that when l am returning, the two of us met together and l congratulate him and to convey my very best wishes for the journey ahead. So l did same this morning too," the DCE stated.

Speaking in an interview with this news outlet on Monday, September 20, 2021, via a telephone call, Mr Quaye asserted that "the two of us pledged to work together to improve the living conditions of our people."

The DCE called on his supporters and sympathizers to rally support for the newly-nominated DCE saying that it does not mean he was sacked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo-Addo but rather his term of office has come to an end.

He reaffirmed his commitment to support the newly nominated DCE to complete all his ongoing social and infrastructure intervention projects and programmes in the area.

The Local Government Minister, Dan Botwe, released the list of MMDCEs during a press conference in Accra on Sunday, September 19.

Local Government Minister, Mr Dan Botwe, has called for calm following the announcement of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) list.

He said the MMDCEs position is service to the nation; hence, persons whose preferred choices were not selected should not engage in disturbances.

“The whole idea is service to the nation. So far as I am concerned, and all well-meaning Ghanaians know, this is aspiring to serve our motherland. If [the] opportunity has not been given to you to serve, there cannot be any reason for disturbances.

“If truly you wanted to serve, then there is absolutely no basis for you to involve in disorderly conduct,” he said at a press conference in Accra while announcing the list.
