Obuasi East DCE prefers curfew over lock down due to challenging conditions

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Obuasi East, Madam Faustina Amissah has opted for a curfew instead of a total lockdown on the Obuasi Municipal should government decide to take a more strategic approach to resolve the coronavirus srises.

The Obuasi Municipal as at Tuesday had recorded 393 coronavirus cases out of the Ashanti Region’s 662 amassing half of the Region’s total number.

 

 

The Central Market has been closed down after a couple, who tested positive for the disease, continued trading for the past two weeks and broadened the spread of the diseased by infecting 17 of their contacts.

According to reports, the released figures were backlog following the KCCR’s load of samples after AngloGold Ashanti earlier conducted a sputum test on COVID-19. The numbers are likely to rise when the rest of the results are confirmed which might call for a lockdown by the president of Ghana to help restrain the virus from intensifying.

Residents also on Monday protested the siting of an isolation centre, with the view that the centre, which is located in the middle of the town, posed a health threat to residents.

Speaking on Shaft Morning Show hosted by Ghanaba Justice on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, the DCE explained that restrictions would give inhabitants access to meet the expense of their own meals instead of relaying their welfare on government when a lockdown is imposed which also has it own challenges attached.

Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo as part of measures to restrain the COVID-19 virus declared a partial lockdown in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, Kasoa and Tema in order to protect households by providing food for four hundred thousand (400,000) individuals and homes.

Complaints recorded from affected persons were unfavorable as majority criticized the method of food distribution and others expressed dissatisfaction on the meals served.

Madam Amissah in her interview advised government to put the best measures in place to create an effective curfew than to declare a lock down.

Ghana’s case count of the Covid-19 disease increased by 427 bringing the country’s total tally to 5,127 as at Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
